Vision of Wrath III

In a small, stone bedroom, a beautiful pregnant woman sleeps. The distant sound of a storm rages outside. She bolts upright and reaches between her legs. She lifts a bloody hand into the dim light. A knife-like pain stabs her belly and she starts to cry. Her snow-white hair becomes streaked with tears from her purple eyes. She reaches for the looking glass at her bedside table and hold it to her face. A sublime beauty appears despite the tears and trembling lips. She sneers at the reflection and says, “The Mother loves even her ugly children. She will still have me.”

She hurls the looking glass against the wall. It shatters and strikes a guttering lantern. The remaining fuel splashes the chest below and it alights. The woman heavy with child rolls to her feet and throws her heavy bedding over the flames snuffing the fire.

Panting, she sits and digs her nails into the stained mattress. Staring at the smoldering chest and blankets, she grins and says, “The Mother will burn them. She will burn them all.”
